This week’s insight – the opposable team

Last week we ‘incubated’ top leadership development professionals from a range of New Zealand companies and abroad.  Take fifteen smart, engaged leaders and you get a lot of insights.  There were many stories shared and here’s something that really stuck with me: high performance team cultures. Many places hold high standards where if you fail to meet them you are out. Other places have high levels of inclusion and safety but little happens if you don’t perform. The very best (and rare) places do both. Hold everyone to crazy high standards but everyone also feels safe. You might stand down the best performer when they make a mistake but then everyone helps them make it right. It’s two opposing, seemingly contradictory cultures that create an awesome outcome.
How do you or your organisation stand up to this idea? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
